Hot-Tub decks by Home Healer Remodeling

Hot tub deck #1

In this example, our client wanted to be able to enter the tub from the existing deck. To do so, we needed to cut out a large section of two steps, resupport the remaining steps and build a lower level deck strong enough to support the weight of a medium sized hot tub filled with a couple hundred gallons of water.

In addition to the visible alterations for the new deck, we also needed to cut into the upper deck next to the new tub for access to the panel controls of the hot tub. With a little creativity, more modifications and skillful hands, we were able to make "trap doors" removeable when necessary yet plenty strong to support the weight of people walking on them without making the doors too obvious.

Hot tub deck #2

We neglected to get a before picture of this project but here is the completed deck.

For this deck we needed to do quite a bit of landscape excavation first by removing a rock wall and diging out a shalow planter to get down to the necessary elevation for the new deck addition. The framework is constructed of 2x6 pressure treated lumber with 7 4x4 posts each sitting on 40 inch deep footings. Along with building this deck, we needed to move 2 each 4" drain pipes for rain gutter run-off that were draining right where the deck is now. With some creativity all tasks were completed in time for the delivery of the new tub.

This homeowner wanted a hand in it all as well and completed the the two steps wrapping around the tub. This project was a bit spendy as the existing deck was constructed of redwood which today is ultra expensive but as usual, the end result is waht matters and it sure does look inviting!
